P-47 41-6628 at Thorncliffe

This small memorial on the site of the crash of P-47 41-6628 at Thorncliffe the aircraft fell here on the 3rd October 1944 with the loss of
2nd Lt Quentin J. Sella the ground around the memorial is very boggy and churned by cattle some recent digging for pipe laying on the edge of the site has brought up some remains including one .50 cal case with part of the link still attached , but how long they will survive on the site is debatable

Roaches Lancaster NF908

These small bits and many more still litter the crash site of Lancaster NF908 on the Roaches the plane crashed in bad weather on the 3rd January 1945 with the loss of the crew of 7 crew .
2 blown .303 and one bullet were some of the better bits but the small stuff littering the site has much of interest for the diligent searcher!.

Aran P-51 44-72340

This view of the area near the crash site of P-51 44-72340 which crashed in this valley by Aran Fawddwy on the 17th May 1945 with the loss of Cpt Richard.L.Tannehill after 2 visits one with Sean and Mick [peak wreck hunters ] covering 3 ref points including both stream beds nothing was found! but access to the valley is easy by vehicle now and it seems much has been saved for posterity in some magpies private collection[ or shed :} ] so if nothing else turns up then its another lost site !.

C-47 41-7803 Moel-y-Gaer

Rocky is standing on the scar left by the crash of C-47 41-7803 which crashed high on Moel-y-Gaer on the 23/8/1942 ,the plane hit the outer wall of the earthworks of to the right ,
one of the engines bounced down the mountain to a point near the farm of Bwlch y Garnedd.
The scar contains some small but interesting parts , the fastner has some quite nice decoration there is also many bits of broken jars and bottles from the stores the plane was transporting .

Spitfire L1034 Beaumaris

On the 13/03/1941 Spitfire L1034 took of from Hawarden , over Anglesey the plane became uncontrollable and the pilot bailed out and landed safely at Gallows point near Beaumaris,the plane fell on to the town wrecking this shop and the house next door in New street !, which was rebuilt and no longer matches the other houses .
Luckily no one was hurt in the accident .

Harvard FX249

The picture above is of the area on Hope Mountain ,Flintshire, where on the 19/03/1951 Harvard FX249 crashed with the loss of Sgt J.Hanna .
There is still some remains but the ground cover is quite spikey !,
also the grid ref I have does not match up with some accounts of the crash site, so another visit!

Botha L6318

This is the general area that on the 23/08/42 Botha L6318 crashed in cloud with the loss of the crew of 5 =

I found nothing on this visit at the given ref in 'Aircraft Wrecks' book so will have to visit again in the future [after the snow!] !.


The area around where Botha L6318 was used for training during the war and has many items that you really shouldn't touch !
these safe .303 cases were in one of the stream beds that cross the site, some years ago near the crash site of Liberator B-24J 42-99991 'Bachelors Baby' not far from this site i found 2 live 2" mortar round on the surface .
