Cessna 337 G-ATNY

The crash site on Moel Siabod of Cessna 337 G-ATNY is high in the rocks in the centre of the picture ,I got to within about 100ft of the site but the cliffs became sheer and I felt it was beyond me on my own so better part on valour and all I came down !
The Cessna was on a private flight to Ronaldsway on the Isles of Man with 5 passengers and the pilot , the plane flew off track and headed into the mountains ! the plane was flying much too low at 2.700ft and hit 30ft below the ridge with the loss of all on board .

There is a ref to wreckage in a bog by the lake at the foot of the slope but after a search of about 1 hour I could find no remains so must assume they have been removed for some reason by some person ?

Vampire FB5 WA134

The farm in the shot is Nantannog near Llanerchymedd , on the 9/7/53 Vampire Wa134 was on a training flight from Valley when the aircraft entered a inverted spin the pilot attempted to bale out but was too low for the parachute to fully deploy and was killed ,the Vampire hit
outbuildings at Nantannog and causing a fire that led to the loss of some livestock !
I have been unable to identify the Libyan pilot who was lost in this crash .

Miles Master N7442

This picture is of the area on Minera mountain by Llangollen of the crash of Miles Master N7442 ,which crashed during a blind flying exercise on the 30/10/1940 the crew of 2 survived the incident although the instructor on the flight Paul Hart was badly injured and he need lengthy treatment under the brilliant Archibald McIndoe, he later became a founder member of the Guinea pig club and he and Archibald remained firm friends for the rest of their lives and ended up farming together on Kilimanjaro !
The second crew member was L.A.C Roy.Turner who was sadly later killed on the 10/12/1948 while serving in Germany , I have no details to his passing all I have been able to find is a picture of his grave at Brookwood!

The crash site is well hidden by the ground cover and I was unable to find anything on this trip at the Hgw ref !
The site like all the crashes nearby has been dug by 'enthusiasts' and no doubt remains will have been 'saved for the nation' in the usual garages and sheds lol!

P-47 42-75584, Birkenhead

On a small bridge on Saughall Massie RD ,Birkenhead is this memorial to the loss of P-47 42-75584!.
The plane was on a pre-delivery flight when it went out of control the plane was reported to be on fire by a witness and to be trying to get down at R.A.F. West Kirby but fell inverted into a field next to the bridge with the loss of Pilot Lieutenant Jay Frederick Simpson !
The site has been excavated in 1974 and remains are at the Perch Rock Museum !

B-24 42-50347, Landican,Birkenhead

On the 18/10/44 B-24 42-50347 was on a flight from Greencastle to Tibenham carrying the crews of 3 B-24' that had been ferried to Greencastle .
The bomber disintegrated above fields over Landican,Birkenhead ,due to a unknown reason but she was a war weary bird and there is the possibility a fuel leak led to an explosion ? The bomber remains fell with the loss of the entire compliment of 24 on fields near the village of landican !
There is on the Dursley Ind est over the other side of the M53 this memorial stone to the lost payed for by local Doug Dorrach, sadly it is well hidden on the estate on a road called Brookway , the plaque also contains the name of J. F. Simpson he was not lost on this plane but in a p-47 not too far away!.

There may be remains still on site but this is private ground ! Landican is worth a visit just to look over the site of this sad loss of so many young crew and to find the memorial !

HE-111 N0 2989 ,Widnes,Liverpool

Heinkel 111 n0 2989 G1+CP Crashed on the 12/3/41 On this field in Widnes,Liverpool the aircraft had taken part in a raid on the docks at Birkenhead but was intercepted by Hurricane V7752 from 96 Sqn Piloted by Sergeant Robin McNair!
Badly damaged the bomber fell and after contacting with a barrage balloon on Ditton Road crashed in a field next to the old I.C.I recreation ground , McNair just made it back to R.A.F Cranage ,running out of fuel on the runway !

The site is now a rugby field and there is little chance of any remains given the amount of diggers/magpies that have been here! sad that there is nothing save a small plaque to Sgt McNair [supposedly nearby but I couldn't find it ?] to remind people and as far as I can tell no remains are on show from any of the 'saved for the nation ' finds, again !!.

This is Rocky[the dog] at the crash site high on Yr Eifl, in the scar there are small remains mainly melted by fire but you still may turn up a recognisable bit or 2 but be warned the site can be hard to find even a few feet away the site is near invisible ! but even if you miss the view is spectacular on a clear day and well worth the climb !

After a very abortive Snowdon climb I decided to wonder back to part of Yr Eifl where I had found larger remains and fell very lucky again this time I discovered a 7ft section of flap ,part of a bomb bay door bracket also a 4ft square access panel and some more smaller bits of skinning !.
I hope these remain here as it would be a shame for them to be 'saved for the nation' in someone's garage till they get chucked out [or they will or sold on ebay ???] ,as they are the last reminders of a young crew who have no monument but these few bits !
