Been a while since I got out wreck hunting but now have some new post s to put up !o look for Anson MG111 but stopped off  to photograph   this bench at Carmel village just south Caernarfon  !
The bench is in memory of Flight Lt. Timothy Francis Haughton Mermegen  , who died April 22, 1965 in Gnat XR950 . XR950 collided with  Gnat XS108 and fell into the field by the goal posts the the trainee in XR950 ejected safely . XS108 made it back to R.A.F.Valley but sadly Pilot Gavin Darrell Priest was lost  crash landing

Bleheim V6099 ,Elidir Fawr

 High on Elidir Fawr this is the crash site of Blenheim V6099 which hit the slope on the 31st of March 1943 with the loss of 3 crew due to bad  weather the plane was not found until the 12th of April , in this picture looking down the slope  the lighter area is the main burn site and the slope has many small remains under the scree there are also some undercarriage remains lower down the slope!

 Just a few of the more interesting pieces I found mostly electrical /perspex /instrument glass/ buckles and fasteners also 3 blown .303 cases there is also quite a few bits of wood .

 .303 casing dated 1940 from an older batch of ammo .

This brace plate has the  factory inspection stamp R2  for Rootes securities who built this aircraft !

P-47D Thunderbolt 42-7925 ,Nantwich

While I was making my way back up country I stopped of to find this memorial to 1st Lt Arthur .L.Brown who lost his life when his aircraft crashed into soft ground on the banks of the River Weaver, behind houses in Shrewbridge Road ,Nantwich On January 14, 1944!
 The reason for the crash may have been the pilot passing out due to anoxia but what ever the true cause the plane fell from 24.000ft at very high speed and was driven deep into the soft soil beyond recovery !
This is site is  a field grave for Lt Brown as he and  his plane remain below the memorial ,there is a symbolic grave stone at the U.S cemetery at Cambridge !

Llangollen revisit Beaufighter NE203 and Fulmar N4074

First post for a while as  life  just keeps chucking problems at me at mo but never mind !

This trip out was supposed to be to new sites but a G.P.S. problem totally of my making meant a revisit to two sites by Llangollen the first was  Beaufighter NE203   above worlds end , at this site  there seems to have been little disturbance since my last visit but the cutting back of the heather  has revealed a new small scatter of remains ! the small scrap in the centre of the picture contains perspex and electrical bits there is a another slightly bigger mark about 15ft further contain scraps on metal  !
This is Rocky with the last  remains left of the Beaufighter !

The second site visited was  Fulmer N4074 to get a accurate ref and this crash site   has had some  disturbance and  I note the bit I found last time has gone ?

Beaufighter X7640 Moel Siabod

Not far from Cessna G-ATNY's crash site there is the site of the loss of Beaufighter X7640 on 8/9/41 The plane was on a ferry flight from R.A.F Weston to R.A.F Sealand by A.T.A pilot F/O V.G.Govett , the plane hit Moel Siabod after entering cloud with the loss of the pilot !
The picture taken at the given Ref shows the slope where X7640 hit , the small scar was of interest as there are no other marks like this on the slope and has no natural reason I could see
to be here so maybe this is the only reminder of X7640 ?
I could find no remains in the scar and after about a hours searching could find nothing else but as the slope is not precipitous and there is easy access from the mine just below recovery would not have been too hard at the time !

Cessna 337 G-ATNY

The crash site on Moel Siabod of Cessna 337 G-ATNY is high in the rocks in the centre of the picture ,I got to within about 100ft of the site but the cliffs became sheer and I felt it was beyond me on my own so better part on valour and all I came down !
The Cessna was on a private flight to Ronaldsway on the Isles of Man with 5 passengers and the pilot , the plane flew off track and headed into the mountains ! the plane was flying much too low at 2.700ft and hit 30ft below the ridge with the loss of all on board .

There is a ref to wreckage in a bog by the lake at the foot of the slope but after a search of about 1 hour I could find no remains so must assume they have been removed for some reason by some person ?

Vampire FB5 WA134

The farm in the shot is Nantannog near Llanerchymedd , on the 9/7/53 Vampire Wa134 was on a training flight from Valley when the aircraft entered a inverted spin the pilot attempted to bale out but was too low for the parachute to fully deploy and was killed ,the Vampire hit
outbuildings at Nantannog and causing a fire that led to the loss of some livestock !
I have been unable to identify the Libyan pilot who was lost in this crash .
