valley again

Just another walk around valley spotted these items though above is the standard wire spirals used for barbed wire for many years by the military most remembered from ww1 a nice find .
Also this jug piece marked 1940 in some remains by the wire of R.A.F. valley not military but a nice reminder of life on the base in ww2 .
This piece in the middle of the shot is from one of the planes that perished on the fire dump could be vulcan/Varsity/shacklton who knows this part of the base is littered with remains and also off limits !
Best find of the day is the undercarriage of what maybe a Varsity poss WL670/P or WJ943/R
still a nice walk !

Brown Clee Hill

On this visit up Brown Clee Hill in shropshire with Adie we revisited some site i have not been to i about 10 years , this bare patch is not far from the ring fort on abdon burf and was the site of the destruction of a large pile of anti aircraft shells at the end of the war ,the shells had been collected at the Ditton Priors Royal Naval Armaments Depot.

Some bit can still be found strewn about the area !.


This memorial on the saddle near the top is to the crews of 9 aircraft that came to grief in the area ,the area by the towers is where 2 wellingtons crashed at different times !

The picture above is of Boyne pool on the hill this is the site of the crash of TyphoonDN251 on the 21/11/42 ,the plane hit 200yrds off to the right and some of the engine made it to the pool ,the reduction gear was apparently removes some years ago from the pool when it was drained and may still be at the hall!.

Beamsley beacon Lancaster RA571

Lancaster RA571 crashed on to Beamsley beacon north of ilkley moor on the 5/11/1945 in heavy mist with the loss of 4 of the Canadian crew there were 4 survivors !



At the site there were many small items that have been dug up recently from one of the burial pits, wonder what has been taken away ?
I left the site as i found, it it is up to others morals if they do the same?

Ilkley moor Halifax DK185

A nice walk out on ilkley moor brings you to this memorial stone to Halifax DK185 which crashed near this stone on the 31/1/1944 with the loss of the 7 crew !.

This pit is some 100 yrds away !
best ref on peak wreck hunters site !.

This patch of bog is about 1/2 a mile away and is the given ref for the crash site of lysander T1689 which fell on the 14/1/1941 in very wintery conditions sadly with the loss of
P/O William Sinclair Tennant.
I found nothing on the surface but about 30 yrds away someone has been digging and given the fact its a bog and so near the ref for this plane i can only guess at magpies!

Aled isaf P-47 41-6195

These few small relics are from p-47 41-6195 piloted by 2nd lt orin wahl the plane crashed not far from aled isaf reservoir the pilot got into trouble with the p47's bad habit of biting without warning ! after baling out he was found later in a local pub a very good landing !.
On the moor there still remains a large crater this did have lots of bits strewn about but as per some nice person cleaned it up the light fingered to**ers!.

DV800

Not far from the crash site of lincoln RF511 is the site of the crash of wellington DV800 this plane hit an area called the black ladders with the loss of all on board on the 19/07/42, the small collection had a small plaque but this has worn and become unreadable .
About 100ft above the small pile is the impact point this has numerous small remains , also part of what i take to be a jumper or scarf and one blown .303.
This is the largest and lowest part i found if the stream is followed down from the site there are quite a few bits for about 200ft or so .

lincoln RF511

This small cairn built from some of the remains of avro lincoln RF511 holds a small plaque to the crew who were lost when the bomber hit high on cwm Llafar on the 15/03/50.
Part of what i think is a astro navigation unit seen the same on the anson VV955 on tal-y-fan.

One very heavy duty hydraulic ram .
Part of one wing most of the wreckage is in the stream bed and as you can see some of it is very large the impact site has lost of parts strewn about including on of the bomb bay door rams .
