On the 28th of August 1972 not far from Halfpenny green airfield ,
Wolverhampton Prince William of Gloucester and co-pilot Vyrell Mitchell
lost their lives during the Goodyear International Air Trophy race the plane a PA-28 Piper Cherokee veered to port just after take off and clipping tress came down on to this bank
and exploded on impact .
During A Christmas visit home I found the site by matching to photos taken at the time , the site has no other marks then the Holly growth
it was said a stone was in the hedgerow as a memorial but I found nothing.
This crash is one I have personnel memories of as a 4 year old I was sat on the bonnet of
my family car by the flight line this day .
